The 2016/17 ISA allowance, news about tax free savings.

It's almost time to start on the new tax year and think about tax free savings. The first sort of account most of us think of is an ISA, which is very sensible, but from the 2016 - 2017 tax year, if you're a lower rate tax payer you can also earn up to £1,000 in interest in regular savings and not be taxed, this is not easy due to incredibly low interest unless you've got sums over about £50,000 at at least 2%.  The higher rate tax payers can only get £500 in interest before they have to pay taxes.

Now the big one the ISA allowance for 2016/17 hasn't risen since last year and is still the same

Junior ISA allowance is £4,080.

Adult ISA limit is £15,240 Which can be used as 100% cash, 100% stocks and shares or any mix you want as long as it doesn't go over the £15,240 limit.

I personally try about 15% of the allowance in stocks and shares - sadly that's managed to loose me about 10% over the last year and thinking might go back to just putting it all in cash and earning a miserable 2.07%,  I have however heard this rumour that shares can go up!  I'm hopeful!

For those that remember this site with weekly updates, my hands are still a mess due to generalised dystonia causing muscular issues and carpal tunnel, left hand is waiting it's 2nd operation, right has had 2 operations already but hasn't come good.

The new cash ISA allowance for 2015 - 2016. Highest instant access and fixed rates.

As anyone that follows ISA allowance news you've been able to put the entire allowance into cash or stocks and shares, this is great news for those that want the safety of cash, but sadly the interest rates at the moment are rubbish, as the end of the 2014/15 tax year is upon us and the 2015 - 2016 tax year is about to start I've started updating the best ISA interest rates for instant access, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 year fixed rate ISAs.

To start the 2014/15 ISA allowance has been increased to £15,000 - this can be used 100% as a cash ISA (As a disabled person - my dystonia has been getting worse - who doesn't earn a lot I personally use mine like a standard savings account; putting excess money in when I have it, taking cash out when I need it but getting the best instant access interest rate I can tax free), you can use your ISA as 100% stocks and shares or any combination, so say you want the safety of cash a 70% cash ISA and 30% stocks and shares, or if you've got good cash reserves then maybe a 70% stocks and shares ISA and 30% cash, you just have to decide what works best for you.

The 2015/16 ISA Allowance will be increased to £15,240 - and once again the total allowance can all be used in cash or stocks and shares, or divided however you want as long as it's not over the maximum tax free allowance.

Highest interest rates I've found for the end of the 2014 - 2015 tax year and if pain isn't too much I'll keep updating the site into the first month of the 2015 - 2016 tax year:

New ISA Allowance from March Budget 2014 comes into effect July 2014.

There's a new allowance that comes into effect on the 1st of July 2014 and there's new limits for the cash and stocks and shares ISAs which means you can save up to £15,000 in either the cash or stocks and shares ISA.

As of 1st of July 2014 you can also transfer from your stocks and shares ISA to your cash ISA which could be very helpful if interest rates start to go up!

The new ISA Allowance for tax year 2014 to 2015.

A lot of people will already know that the tax free ISA allowance for 2014/15 has increased to £11,880 which can either be used as full amount into stocks and shares ISA or you can deposit £5,940 in a cash ISA and the remaining amount into a stocks and shares ISA.

If you don't want to use 50% of the allowance in cash you can split it other ways for example 75% in stocks and shares and 25% in cash, however you can not go above 50% of the ISA total allowance in cash.

The new allowance can't be used until the start of the tax year 6th of April 2014 and you have until the 5th of April 2015 to use deposit or invest your total limit.

At the start of March 2014 I'll be back updating the highest interest rates for cash ISAs on this page: ISA and I hope to be adding the latest best rates on this site as well until mid April 2014 when the rush for information dies down again.

Good saving and investing everyone!

New ISA Allowance for 2013 & 2014, cash ISA and stocks & shares ISA limits.

I know a few people still check here instead of heading over to - Finance for the latest info about ISAs so I thought I better update this page with the new tax free ISA allowance for 2013-2014 which is: £11,520, this can be fully used in stocks and shares, or can be split 50/50 into a cash ISA and stocks and shares ISA at £5,760 cash ISA limit and another £5,760 in the stocks and shares.

So that's:

New total 2013-14 ISA Allowance of £11,520

which can be split into a maximum of

£5,760 in a tax free Cash ISA for 13/14

with the rest going into the stocks & shares ISA limit for 2013-2014.
